Team Sheets – Round 22

All the rumours and team news for Round 22!

Key Updates:

Sunday teams have now dropped and the major news is that Paul Ahern has been rested!

Summary:

A few key changes this week with some big ins and outs!  Nat Fyfe is back from his injury, although with a game against Geelong in Geelong this is probably not the week to pull the trigger, definitely a watch for next week though.  Other relevant ins (mainly for Draft) include Toby Nankervis, Michael BarlowRyan Abbott, Paul Seedsman (kind of), and Michael Hibberd (alright, there aren’t that many key ins).

To the outs!  We all knew it was coming, Josh Kelly will miss this week.  At this point of the season it is a must-trade, but for those who can’t I wouldn’t panic too much, he’ll surely be back for the final round.  Heath Shaw’s injury has burnt those with him as a POD down back, Luke Ryan is out as well.  There is a bit of rookie carnage with Sam Switkowski one and done, Alex Johnson injured again, and poor rampaging Nathan Freeman also omitted.  Finally to Draft where Dion Prestia, Trent Cotchin and Jesse Hogan may cost some people their preliminary finals.  Good luck!

Which one to trade out looking at this weeks matchup:

    – Dusty (May have limited game time like Trent Cotchin has last few weeks, however is playing Friday night footy at the G).

    – Rockliff (Listed to start in the forward pocket – likely to rotate through middle)

    – Robbie Gray (Starting on ball – may spend time forward)

    – Westhoff (Starting at Full forward – could limit scoring potential)

Have enough money to get anyone so price doesn’t matter

I can get Ablett by trading out Westhoff, wheres trading Rocky out I can only get Duncan. I feel like tiger’s outs including Cotchin out mean Dusty will score better, but I can’t split the Port boys.

Out if the port boys, Westhoff is the one to keep. He does rucking in Ryder’s absence and has scored better in the best doing that, which is looking like a strong possibility.

    HELP
thinking of trading out Cogs for either

    – Ablett v Freo in Geelong only worry is Banfield named

    or

    – Seb Ross v Hawks at Etihad

Ross’ recent form reminds me of his football pedigree and that his cousin is Jobe Watson. That said, Gazza is also flying at the moment, and with a home game vs Freo, he may be in a better position to confidently achieve somewhere near his ceiling, more so than Ross against the dour Hawks who will likely suppress the saints and leave Ross having to reach his ceiling somewhat off his own efforts. He did it last week, alone, though.
Still, as I am not sure Bamfield will be give a a tight tag role on Gaz, he would be my slight favourite (at home vs weaker opposition) in a Prelim.

Appreciated and agree with your thoughts I have gon Bald Jesus also because if I win and am in GF he plays Suns at home next week too

OK – now I’m massively confused! Walters does his hamstring and is said to be done for the year and old mate Roscoe confirms as much. Now, Sonny is named in Freo’s starting line-up to face the Cats??? Bizarre!!!

Ross did say it wasn’t as bad as first thought. You would have thought it was even a week for a minor strain. Weird!

    Gibbs or Duncan?

    • Nathan

      August 16, 2018 at 11:04 pm

Similar problem to me…. Sloane or Selwood? Crows and Cats both have two good games coming up.

I would go Gibbs over Duncan as Duncan has been playing more off half back as of late

      • AF Rising Star

        August 17, 2018 at 8:32 am

        Cheers yes Gibbs seems safer.
For you I reckon u have to get Sloane – I think he has better potential, plus Selwood has scored badly against Freo in the past

  12. Nathan

    August 16, 2018 at 11:04 pm

    SLoane or J.Selwood?

    • Plugger

      August 16, 2018 at 11:33 pm

Sloane’s recent form is better, but there is more resting on Selwood’s performance, one might think, over the final two rounds. Lineball, but I would go for the best current form, so would lean to Sloane.

Aish or Conca for this week?

  14. Plugger

    August 16, 2018 at 11:12 pm

How did this Saints Freeman get scape-goated? Surely he was in their best 1/3rd last week, with many more who were dismal behind him. I would prefer the coach, Richardson, was given a week or two with the Magoos to get his form back.
There is something wrong at the top in Saintsland. No galvanising and authoritative leadership. Why is everyone in the football department being reviewed but not Richo? Unhappy Jane! I fear more of the same for the Saints (bottom third) in 2019.
One more week for Freeman (on last week’s collective team efforts) would seem to have been a more lucid decision.

    • Plugger

      August 16, 2018 at 11:28 pm

P.S. I didn’t trade in Freeman over the past 2 weeks, but there must be, amongst those who did, some who reasonably think that his dumping this week was premature and deserving of a rave . . . Hence, for solidarity’s sake, the above.

Good luck with your bench coverage, those who are effected. It is not only perplexity with our own coaching idiocies we have to cop, but also perplexity from having seeming selection idiocy visited upon us by the so called ‘professional’ coaches. Put Richo on notice and review his performance, too.

    • The Cricket

      August 17, 2018 at 4:13 pm

Agreed. Quite apart from fantasy considerations, it seems to me that dropping Freeman after just two games is not the way to encourage him to produce his best. I see the argument for giving Goddard a game but I would have thought it’d be preferable to play them both and invest in the new talent coming through. Given their ‘rebuild’ and ladder position it seems strange. Of course, Freeman may be fine with it, but who’d blame him if he’s not?
