AFL Teams 2016: Round 17

No Late changes Dockers vs Cats. Lockout 8:10pm.

5:30pm Friday 15/07/2016

Sunday extended bench selections are in! The big early news of course is Rory Laird has been withdrawn from the crows lineup, and Paul Seedsman is into the 22. Harrison Himmelberg (Fwd. $188,000 AF $157,300 DT) to debut for GWS, and we see rookie Sam J. Reid (Mid/Fwd) return. Ben Keays (Mid) and Josh Wagner (Def) didnt make the cut.

6:30pm Thursday 14/07/2016

Remaining weekend teamsheets are in. (Sorry about delay, We had a blackout up in the bush :P). Michael Barlow (Mid/Fwd) is a confirmed in. Josh Cowan (Def $130,000 AF $161,700 DT) finally gets a run for the cats, but we see Jimmy Bartel managed, and expect to see more of this for cats players coming into finals. A few PODs are back with Daniel Wells (Fwd/Mid), Jarrad Waite (Fwd), Matthew Leuenberger (Ruck/Fwd) and that hype player from port Sam Gray (Mid/Fwd).
Both Brad Ebert & Tom Liberatore are out with a painfully sounding bruised Lung. Rookie priced players Reece Conca (Fwd/Mid), Sam Michael (Ruck), Darcy Tucker (Def) are omitted.

6:30pm Wednesday 13/07/2016

Yet another partial lockout week, with Swans vs Hawks this Thursday, and a sneak peak early teams lineup tonight~6:30pm. As always make sure you have any trades involving hawks or swans teams done, and setup that VC loophole while you are at it.
Some grabbed Rookie James Rose (Fwd) off a solid debut. Well, hes out. Interesting in for Hawks is Brendan Whitecross (Def/Fwd $232,000 AF $260,900 RDT ) who has been struggling to get into the team for some time now, but has a good DT history. Ben McGlynn is in a similar boat back for the Swans but with a heftier price tag. Both are a tad to risky for my liking, but this game can be about risk/reward.
The big news clearly during the week is yet again Gary Ablett’s season is over, but you would have to be living under a rock to have missed that one.
We will see David Zaharakis back from report, and strong indication that Michael Barlow will actually play this week (They tricked us last week).

Shags’ Watchlist

He looked abit lost in his Debut, but watching swans play last week I thought Aliir Alirr ($153,000 AF $154,400 DT) did some great things and held his own, increasing his Job security, and he has held his spot for the first time consecutively because of this. I don’t expect big numbers from the key position defender, but with lack of rookies around he is someone you could sneak in your defense bench. The kids already amassing a bit of a cult following so watch this space.

MILESTONES: Andrew Mackie – Playing 250th game, Cameron Guthrie – Playing 100th game

Shags’ Watchlist

Great to see a local lad from my hood of Daylesford Josh Cowan (Def $130,000 AF $161,700 DT) get a game back after a horrific injury last year. Hes a hard at it mid sized defender, and has the potential to score well, if he can keep a spot in the team and avoid injury. Another downgrade option in defence. Watch and wait one week to be safe.

MILESTONES: Craig Bird – Playing 150th game

Shags’ Watchlist

Dimma is giving some youngsters a good run for the tiges, and we had a good look at some last week. Maybe the most popular downgrade option this week is Jason Castagna (Def. $177,000 AF $171,000 DT) coming off a solid 94. Beware though, everyone at Tigers seemed to have scored well last week.

EMG John Butcher, Jimmy Toumpas, Jesse Palmer
Sam Gray, Paul Stewart, Brendon Ah Chee
Cam O’Shea (Omitted), Brad Ebert (Bruised Lung), Nathan Krakouer (Family Reasons)
MILESTONES: Jake Neade – Playing 50th game

Shags’ Watchlist

Why oh why you ask am I putting a watchlist on Sam Gray (Fwd/Mid $420,000 AF $437,200 DT) who are on manys never again list after not living up to potential, and getting dumped! Well, he was a hype player for a reason, he has the talent to score well, and now he is cheap. Who knows maybe he has reinvented himself with his time in the wilderness a bit like Barlow did for Freo.

Western Bulldogs v Gold Coast Suns at Cazalys Stadium, Cairns (7.25pm)

B Matthew Boyd, Fletcher Roberts, Jason Johannisen
HB Easton Wood, Dale Morris, Matthew Suckling
C Lachie Hunter, Marcus Bontempelli, Liam Picken
HF Caleb Daniel, Tom Boyd, Lin Jong
F Tory Dickson, Jack Redpath, Jake Stringer
FOL Jordan Roughead, Jack Macrae, Mitch Wallis
I/C Clay Smith, Josh Dunkley, Shane Biggs, Koby Stevens
EMG Lukas Webb, Mitch Honeychurch, Kieran Collins

EMG Jack Leslie, Clay Cameron, Seb Tape
Jesse Lonergan, Mitch Hallahan, Jarrad Grant
Gary Ablett (Shoulder), Michael Rischitelli (Knee), Dion Prestia (Knee)
MILESTONES: Alex Sexton – Playing 50th game

Shags’ Watchlist

Well I raved all preseason about Touk Miller (Mid/Fwd $356,000 AF $370,500 DT) who smashed out a 135, and with the suns midfield obliterated, you would think he’d get a good crack in the mids. Hes cheap and has a super low BE, for those wanting to take a punt.

Adelaide v Collingwood at Adelaide Oval (7.40pm)

B Jake Lever, Kyle Hartigan, Kyle Cheney
HB Paul Seedsman, Daniel Talia, Brodie Smith
C Tom Lynch, Scott Thompson, David Mackay
HF Mitch McGovern, Josh Jenkins, Rory Atkins
F Eddie Betts, Taylor Walker, Charlie Cameron
FOL Sam Jacobs, Rory Sloane, Jarryd Lyons
I/C Brad Crouch, Richard Douglas, Matt Crouch, Ricky Henderson
EMG Cam Ellis-Yolmen, Wayne Milera, Jake Kelly
Paul Seedsman
Rory Laird (Injured)

B Jonathon Marsh, Nathan J. Brown, Jeremy Howe
HB Taylor Adams, Ben Reid, Ben Sinclair
C Steele Sidebottom, Adam Treloar, James Aish
HF Brent Macaffer, Travis Cloke, Travis Varcoe
F Darcy Moore, Jesse White, Jarryd Blair
FOL Brodie Grundy, Scott Pendlebury, Jack Crisp
I/C Jordan De Goey, Levi Greenwood, Brayden Maynard, Josh Smith
EMG Tyson Goldsack, Jarrod Witts, Marley Williams
Levi Greenwood
Alex Fasolo (Shoulder)

Shags’ Watchlist

Rory Sloane (Mid $589,000 AF $628,500 DT) has been playing so well recently that he has jumped into Brownlow contention. Coming off a 5 round average of 126.8 and crows supposedly having a soft run home, hes a popular trade in for an injured Gaz.

Sunday July 17

Carlton v West Coast Eagles at MCG (1.10pm)

B Sam Docherty, Sam Rowe, Kade Simpson
HB Zach Tuohy, Lachie Plowman, Jacob Weitering
C Dennis Armfield, Patrick Cripps, Sam Kerridge

FOL Matthew Kreuzer, Bryce Gibbs, Ed Curnow
I/C Kristian Jaksch, Nick Graham, Dylan Buckley, Charlie Curnow
EMG Mark Whiley, Jason Tutt, Liam Jones
Kristian Jaksch, Nick Graham, Dylan Buckley, Charlie Curnow
Andrejs Everitt (Omitted), Levi Casboult (Suspension), Andrew Walker (Knee), Dale Thomas (Calf)

B Brad Sheppard, Will Schofield, Thomas Barrass
HB Elliot Yeo, Jeremy McGovern, Shannon Hurn
C Chris Masten, Matt Priddis, Jamie Cripps
HF Mark Hutchings, Jack Darling, Mark LeCras
F Josh Hill, Josh J. Kennedy, Patrick McGinnity
FOL Scott Lycett, Andrew Gaff, Luke Shuey
I/C Mitchell Brown, Jack Redden, Sharrod Wellingham, Sam Butler
EMG Lewis Jetta, Eric Mackenzie, Jackson Nelson
Jack Redden
Lewis Jetta (Omitted)
MILESTONES: Brad Sheppard – Playing 100th game, Mark Hutchings – Playing 50th game

Shags’ Watchlist

With a few premo defenders biting the dust, many will be looking to cover holes in our defences. Elliot Yeo (Def/Mid $431,000 AF be 71 $ 460,100 be 84) is quite far down the list on must have defenders, but he is very cheap and hes been pretty good in his last few games with a 3 game average of 96.3 and a lot of his low scores this year are due to injury.

St Kilda v Melbourne at Etihad Stadium (3.20pm)

B Jarryn Geary, Sean Dempster, Dylan Roberton
HB Jack Newnes, Sam Gilbert, Leigh Montagna
C Maverick Weller, David Armitage, Jack Billings
HF Blake Acres, Nick Riewoldt, Nathan Wright
F Tim Membrey, Josh Bruce, Darren Minchington
FOL Tom Hickey, Luke Dunstan, Jack Steven
I/C Sebastian Ross, Jade Gresham, Daniel McKenzie, Jack Sinclair
EMG Eli Templeton, Luke Delaney, Cameron Shenton
Jack Billings, Jack Sinclair
Luke Delaney (Omitted), Shane Savage (Concussion)
MILESTONES: Luke Dunstan – Playing 50th game

B Sam Frost, Tom McDonald, Neville Jetta
HB Jayden Hunt, Oscar McDonald, Jack Grimes
C Christian Petracca, Bernie Vince, Dom Tyson
HF Jeff Garlett, Jack Watts, James Harmes

FOL Max Gawn, Nathan Jones, Jack Viney
I/C Angus Brayshaw, Ben Kennedy, Mitch White, Matt Jones
EMG Billy Stretch, Tomas Bugg, Josh Wagner
Angus Brayshaw
Billy Stretch (Omitted)
MILESTONES: Jack Grimes – Playing 100th game

Shags’ Watchlist

Yeah, I am gunna do it. one of those never again players. A player who hasnt even been able to get a game for the dees. But Veteran Jack Grimes (Def $454,000 AF $ 452,200 DT) smashing out a 140 last week cannot be ignored. True, many dees players scored well last week, but if he scores huge again this week people will take notice.

Brisbane Lions v GWS Giants at Gabba (4.40pm)

B Daniel McStay, Darcy Gardiner, Tom Cutler
HB Daniel Rich, Harris Andrews, Sam Mayes
C Tom Rockliff, Rhys Mathieson, Rohan Bewick
HF Pearce Hanley, Lewis Taylor, Jarrad Jansen

FOL Stefan Martin, Ryan Lester, Mitch Robinson
I/C Josh Green, Eric Hipwood, Matthew Hammelmann, Rueben William
EMG Ben Keays, Josh Walker, Liam Dawson
Tom Cutler
Daniel Merrett (Illness)
MILESTONES: Rueben William – Played 1st game

B Nick Haynes, Joel Patfull, Heath Shaw
HB Josh Kelly, Phil Davis, Adam Kennedy
C Adam Tomlinson, Callan Ward, Zac Williams
HF Steve Johnson, Jeremy Cameron, Rory Lobb
F Dylan Shiel, Jonathon Patton, Devon Smith
FOL Shane Mumford, Stephen Coniglio, Tom Scully
I/C Jack Steele, Harrison Himmelberg, Toby Greene, Sam J. Reid
EMG Daniel Lloyd, Caleb Marchbank, Tom Downie
Harrison Himmelberg, Sam J. Reid
Lachie Whitfield (Illness), Rhys Palmer (Omitted)
Harrison Himmelberg

Shags’ Watchlist

Hes a debut in round 17, Harrison Himmelberg (Fwd. $188,000 AF $157,300 DT) only debut we have this week. An Academy gruaduate from the Riverina is making his debut against Brissy, so he may get a good score. Job security is of course, shaky.
