Leftys In-Vestments – Round 11 (Or “Carnage Uno” as I like to call the first MBR)

Welcome to Lefty’s In-Vestments for round 11, where once again I will have a crack at picking the dreaded green vests for this weeks games. I was pretty unhappy with my effort last week as I picked only 2 of the green vesters with my first picks and 4 with my second picks (6/18).

LeftysInvestmentsWelcome to Lefty’s In-Vestments for round 11, where once again I will have a crack at picking the dreaded green vests for this weeks games. I was pretty unhappy with my effort last week as I picked only 2 of the green vesters with my first picks and 4 with my second picks (6/18). Overthinking some teams strategy on the vest (ie Sydney should play Mitchell a full game to test him and then maybe give him the red vest if he gets too fatigued) seems to not be working for my picks so I may have to rethink my calls.

I have added a new feature this week – I have selected a player from each team who has copped a vest and may become DT relevant in the next month as the (generally) lower score cycles through their price or indeed have already. Note – their position on the field has had a bearing on the importance I give them (ie few mids will get a look in as most of our Dream Team midfields should have close to 8 premos plus Mitchell and Hrovat/Martin by round 14 at the latest)

Like every Thursday night I have assessed the team line ups, looked at the previous green vests for each team, and tried to work out the most likely starting sub candidates. I will also try and outline the Sunday teams likely green vests from the squads of 25 (good bloody luck I hear you say!) but that is the price you pay for a social life on Friday nights and no computer access!

So here we go – Round 11

Adelaide Crows

2013  Subs – Martin, Porplyzia, Vince, Porplyzia, Laird, Wright, Lyons, Porplyzia, Porplyzia,Martin

Vest Alert – FWD Porplyzia ($241,900, BE 50) You would need some big cajones to pick him but he is $155,000 cheaper than round 1 and if he can start stringing a few full games together like last weeks 72 he could easily average 80 for the rest of the year like 2012 – F7 anyone?

Lefty’s #1 Sub – Crouch

Lefty’s #2 Sub – Henderson

Brisbane Lions

2013 Subs – Beams, Karnezis, Polkinghorne, Paparone, Docherty, Green, Black, Mayes, Green, Docherty

Vest Alert – Very slim pickings here – Back Docherty ($151,800 BE -5) has been on the list for a while at Brisbane and should get a big go 2nd half of the year as Lions build for the future

Lefty’s #1 Sub – Bye

Lefty’s #2 Sub –

Carlton Blues

2013  Subs – Joseph, McLean, Buckley, Joseph, Betts, Cachia, Cachia, Menzel, Bootsma, Bell

Vest Alert – Troy Menzel Mid/Fwd ($138,700, BE 18) his 8 will only hang in his price rise for one week and could be a great downgrade for Mayes? Round 13 bye sucks though

Lefty’s #1 Sub – Lucas

Lefty’s #2 Sub – Cachia

Collingwood Magpies

2013  Subs – Dwyer, Seedsman, Fasolo, D. Thomas, Goldsack, Kennedy, Mooney, Kennedy, Kennedy, Didak

Vest Alert – Ben Kennedy Mid/Fwd ($153,500 BE -22) only concern here is his JS may be low due to Martin, Dwyer etc all trying to squeeze in.

Lefty’s #1 Sub –Kennedy

Lefty’s #2 Sub – Martin

Essendon Bombers

2013  Subs – Zaharakis, Kommer, Colyer, Winderlich, Myers, Hocking, Lovett-Murray, Howlett, Melksham, Hams

Vest Alert –  Myers Back ($347,200 BE 101) – averaged 89 rounds 1-7 excluding his vested score, not many backs going that well this year

Lefty’s #1 Sub –Davey

Lefty’s #2 Sub – Hams

Fremantle Dockers

2013  Subs – Sutcliffe, Sutcliffe, Sutcliffe, Neale, Suban, Sutcliffe, Crozier, Mzungu, Suban, Sutcliffe

Vest Alert – Bugger all – Mzungu Mid ($329,300 BE 15) if you could trust him to deliver more of his Round 9 score of 133? Not for me though

Lefty’s #1 Sub – Bye

Lefty’s #2 Sub –

Geelong Cats

2013  Subs – Horlin-Smith, Stokes, Caddy, Caddy, Hunt, Horlin-Smith, Schroder, Hunt, Hunt, Christensen

Vest Alert – Christensen Fwd/Mid ($392,000 BE 93) has the Giants, Lions and Demons in the next 5 games and chappy is out for at least another month……

Lefty’s #1 Sub –Stringer

Lefty’s #2 Sub – Murdoch

Gold Coast Suns

2013 Subs – Matera, Brennan, Russell, Russell, Hutchins, Hall, Matera, Russell, Russell, Horsley

Vest Alert – Well this was going to be Matera until the injury news this week – Brennan Back ($362,800 BE 123) does have a big ceiling… and big injury/attitude/haircut issues…..only if you like gambling

Lefty’s #1 Sub – Russell

Lefty’s #2 Sub – Patrick

GWS Giants

2013 Subs – Adams, Hoskin-Elliot, Reid, Miles, Bugg, Williams, Williams, Shiel, Hampton, Townsend

Vest Alert – Adams Mid ($452,900 BE 110) Clearly the Giants best DTer, if you take his 12 as a sub out has averaged 104

Lefty’s #1 Sub –Ugle

Lefty’s #2 Sub – Townsend

Hawthorn Hawks

2013 Subs – Anderson, Savage, Gunston, Savage, Savage, Simpkin, Simpkin, Puopolo, Duryea, Cheney

Vest Alert – Simpkin Mid (Boo!) $285,700, BE -16 . Averaging just under 90 when not in the vest, wish he was a forward

Lefty’s #1 Sub – Bye

Lefty’s #2 Sub –

Melbourne Demons

2013 Subs – Blease, Rodan, Toumpas, Davey, Davey, Kent, Davey, Bail, Bail, Tapscott

Vest Alert – Davey Fwd ($286,900 BE 22) 89 point average last 3 unsubbed average and lets face it melbourne have no-one better to replace him

Lefty’s #1 Sub –Bail

Lefty’s #2 Sub – Tapscott

North Melbourne Roos

2013 Subs – Anthony, Jacobs, Wright, Anthony, Anthony, Hine, Wells, Gibson, Wright, Hine

Vest Alert – Gibson Mid ($396,300 BE 56) averaging over 90 without his sub game, remember how he finished last year off……

Lefty’s #1 Sub –Hine

Lefty’s #2 Sub –Cunnington

Port Adelaide Power

2013 Subs – Mitchell, Mitchell, Mitchell, Gray, Gray, Stewart, Mitchell , Mitchell, Broadbent, Mitchell

Vest Alert – (only because I have to pick one) Gray Mid/Fwd ($316,000 BE 91) watch his scores as he is a better player than he has shown this year and may be a sidegrade option if he gets on a run for a few weeks…

Lefty’s #1 Sub – Bye

Lefty’s #2 Sub –

Richmond Tigers

Last  Subs – Nahas, Ellis, Ellis, Ellis, Nahas, White, Foley, White, White, Lonergan

Vest Alert – White Mid ($217,600 BE 18) hmm showed against the Eagles what he can do in a full game – horrid timing to be on bubble though with all the good mid rookie options at the moment (see Jeppas Juniors if you live on Mars and missed this weeks write-up). Wish he had pumped out that 102 in round 14ish as I dont see how I can use it with Mitchell, Hrovat and Martin all bubbling in next few weeks.

Lefty’s #1 Sub –Bye

Lefty’s #2 Sub –

Saint Kilda Saints

2013 Subs -Dennis-Lane, Schneider, Ray, Ross, Saunders, Murdoch, Webster, Siposs, Webster, Webster

Vest Alert – Ray Mid ($361,000 BE 66) Plays West Coast and Melbourne the next 2 after last weeks ton but only if he was DPP for my team…

Lefty’s #1 Sub –Saunders

Lefty’s #2 Sub – Webster

Sydney Swans

2013 Subs – Armstrong, Bird, Bird, Morton, Jetta, Lamb, Lamb, Bird, Lamb, Mitchell

Vest Alert – Jetta Fwd ($335,300 BE 62) “Jets” seemed to carrying a niggle early in the year (too many celebratory brews perhaps?) but I will be watching his second half very closely….

Lefty’s #1 Sub – B Jack

Lefty’s #2 Sub – Morton

West Coast Eagles

2013 Subs – Embley, Dalziell, Cripps, Dalziell, Cripps, Naitanui, Dalziell, Sheppard, Hutchings, Embley

Vest Alert – Natanui Ruck/Fwd ($432,600 BE 93) wont get any cheaper, do you want the Eagles pair as your lead rucks though?

Lefty’s #1 Sub –Hams

Lefty’s #2 Sub – Sheppard

Western Bulldogs

2013 Subs – Smith, Stevens, Smith, Stringer, Macrae, Wallis, Cross, Smith,Gia, Gia

Vest Alert – Cross Mid ($412,400 BE 74) Very cheap for a proven mid (averaging 90 without sub in 2013)..also Boyd and Cross seem to finish off years better than they start (the Stanton to Boyd trade has been a winner the last few years at the mid point of the season). Only worry is will they give the kids more of a go in the guts and play Boyd and Cross forward?

Lefty’s #1 Sub – Bye

Lefty’s #2 Sub –

So there you have it – my views on the likely vests for round 11 and a brief rundown of a player from each team you may want to look at who has been green vested in 2013

My number one vest pick for the weekend – B Jack Sydney

Good luck – and feel free to tweet me when I get it right/wrong over the weekend
