DT TALK Live 2012: Rd 20

It’s the first week of finals and we are up and about… but not with our big Swan problem. We run through the teams and look at the big issues heading into this week of AFL Dream Team and our assault on our league premierships.

    August 9, 2012 at 9:40 pm

hey warnie, have 100,000, one trade and swanny. have certain elimation final win and then 70% semi final win, do you think i should trade him out or keep him for later on?

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 9:45 pm

I think hold on. Especially if you have a Gibson or Treloar (or someone better) as an emergency. You might be best to use the $100K next week on someone else.

  2. The UnderAchievers

    August 9, 2012 at 9:41 pm

    Hey Warnie,

I have to play two of the following defenders out of Hargrave, Darley, Clarke or S.Shaw. Who would you play on the field? I was thinking Hargrave and Darley due to higher ceilings and they are fighting for a spot in the team.

    • The UnderAchievers

      August 9, 2012 at 9:43 pm

Also haven’t got any trades left.

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 9:47 pm

Yep – Darley (vs Gold Coast) and Hargrave (ceiling)… Clarke is a sub chance and Shaw is unpredictable.

Good call. I’m with you 100%.

  3. Ben Yeates

    August 9, 2012 at 9:44 pm

    Hey Warnie,

Should I use my last trade to bring in Stevie J for Porps.

Also, who should I play out of Spurr, Hargrave and Darley (one of them).

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 9:50 pm

Love getting SJ in (Porpz definitely out)… with his midfield role. Take out that 1 and look at his last few games. Love it.

Tough one to play… I’d like to say Hargrave, but I think Darley might just have the edge against GC.

  4. Andre

    August 9, 2012 at 9:44 pm

have 2 trades left and finished 4th in league. do i bring in Stevie Johnson for Devon Smith this week or do I hold and see if Buddy is maybe back next week?

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 9:51 pm

Hmm… Devon Smith should score well vs GC so will be decent cover for Buddy. You’d think the big Bud is back next week… SURELY!

Hold – those trades will be handy!

  5. Rambo Tambo

    August 9, 2012 at 9:44 pm

Warnie, have no cover for Chappy if he pulls out. Can go Adams to Goodes, 1 trade left. I’ll be waiting until the last minute but geez I’m worried!

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 9:53 pm

Obviously, like you say, wait until the final teams 90mins before the game… but that would be very handy. The depth with having Goodes ‘covering’ for Chappy would be great and hopefully with DPP he can cover more than just your forward line.

      Good call!

  6. Luca

    August 9, 2012 at 9:45 pm

Going Porplyzia > Fyfe, but also have Buddy with only Murdoch as cover…
Thinking of going either Buddy > Stevie J or Buddy > Beams. Thoughts?
    4 trades left…

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 9:56 pm

With 4 trades, I have no problem with you making two trades this week. SJ or Beams. Hmm… tough call. I like Beams because of his beast scores he has pumped out this year, but SJ’s run home is slightly better.

Beams would be the guy I feel safer with though.

  7. Jazper

    August 9, 2012 at 9:48 pm

Hey Warnie, Should i trade stanton or keep him. I will use Gibson as cover. Was planning to trade S Shaw to Scotland and D Martin to Fyfe. I have 4 trades left and $297k. Team is ‘complete’ except for D7 where i have to choose from S Shaw, Baguley or Bell (assuming i don’t trade Scotland in). Thanks in advance mate.

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 10:01 pm

Ahhh… some tough calls to make there! If you could make 3 trades this week, I would do that! But we can’t, so we have to stick with it.

Shaw to Scotland is a priority I think. Lock that in.

So then we either trade Stanton or Martin. Hmmm… is there enough cash to make Stanton someone that you’d be happy with for finals (eg Thompson)? If not, just go with the Martin to Fyfe trade as I feel Fyfe is set for a big last 4 rounds as the Dockers head for finals action.

  8. Michael

    August 9, 2012 at 9:49 pm

    Hey Warnedawg

Wanting to trade Buddy only because I’m not confident at all with my cover! Down to my last trade and am in qualifying final in 1 league which I’m probably the keenest on winning and elimination final in the other two which will be very close games if I use my cover, however will probs win if I trade Buddy to Beams, etc. Does it come down to prioritising leagues or use em or lose em?

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 10:04 pm

You’re not going to go wrong with trading Buddy to Beams. I think he’ll average a few more points than Buddy in the run home.

It does come down to prioritising leagues, but really.. this will definitely make your team better! I would hate to not trade and miss out on things. If you can get through your main league this week and head into the preliminary finals… then it’s a win too as there is one less week for you to worry about.

Beams is a winner. Lock it!

  9. Corey

    August 9, 2012 at 9:49 pm

$3.600 in the bank with 2 trades left

    DEF: B Deledio , M Suckling , J Grimes , B Goddard , G Birchall , A Carrazzo , S Shaw
    G Broughton , B Ellis

    MID: G Ablett , S Mitchell , J Redden , J Selwood , M Priddis , S Gibson ,
    B Stanton , T Couch

    RUCK: D Hale , J Giles ,
    J Redden , T Campbell

    FWD: D Beams , S Sidebottom , P Chapman , B Harvey , M Robinson , D Martin , D Zorko
    L Franklin , J Porplyzia .

Would i be better trading this week (and if so some suggestions) or am i better off not trading. I’m in 1st or 2nd in my 3 main leagues.

    Thanks in advance :)

    • program

      August 9, 2012 at 11:03 pm

Team looks pretty good mate. I’d hold the trades for next week.

  10. Pepper Pig

    August 9, 2012 at 10:03 pm

Hey lads having some real issues this week. Have traded and reversed about 20 times already.

Cash League am playing in the Elimination Final.

My Uniques Ave. His Uniques Ave.
    Suckling 85 Scotland 98
    M.Johnson 85 Waters 97
    Bugg 70 Adcock 83

    Thompson 108 Mitchell 105
    Rocky 100 Murphy 99

    Cox 99 Goldstein 82

    Beams 114 Chappy 100
    Danger 98 Cloke 74
    TOTAL 759 738

I have 3 trades left and 97K left. Was thinking that Bugg is my only non premo- so should upgrade him. Options would be only Scotland or Waters as think all the rest dont improve my team enough- but to afford them would need to double trade- Treloar to say Couch to keep mid/fwd link and then Bugg to Scotland leaving me enough coin to upgrade D.Smith to Swan in prelim final week if i get there.

But now that Couch isnt named- wondering if I should chance it that my team will outscore his seeing as Bugg plays GC and could score near what Scotland would against BL anyway? That way I will get to re-assess next week in case there are any LTI or I may be able to do 1 upgrade to Scotland depending on price rises/falls.

Or is it too close to take a chance and I should sure up my side this week to give myself a better chance at winning?

    Cmon Lads- help me out!

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 10:25 pm

Ahhh… boy oh boy! This is a bloody tough one!

It is too close to take a chance, so I’d look at trading… BUT the benefit of those trades could outweigh all of that. But Couch isn’t a chance to get a game in my opinion from here. Not even an emergency this week. Think he’s done.

Smart DT thing is to hold but because it’s elimination, you’ve gotta do all you can to get the win. So trade, trade big. Hope that you don’t need Couch. You will have Devon Smith there by the sounds of it and some cash to help later on.

Just go for it. You can’t get beaten this week wondering ‘what if’.

      • Pepper Pig

        August 9, 2012 at 10:59 pm

Cheers Warnie. Yor advice is sound.

The gambler in me wants to chance it as it will set me up way better in the coming rounds in case of that dreaded LTI or General.

Is there any danger given Scotlands age- Carlton could put him away early if they cant make finals and try some kids?

Also if Chappy is a late withdrawl and my opp doesnt have cover- would that give me the opening not to trade you reckon?

Whats complicating my decisions is that everything is going into my premos hands more than his- beams is likely a slighty larger score without swan, bugg/treloar/d.smith play GC so big points to be had, suckling plays a struggling port forward line and coxy plays a vfl-er in big O.

    • Brak

      August 9, 2012 at 11:01 pm

Bugg to Scotland is the safe option and hope he doesn’t go Cloke to Stevie J or ROK

  11. pfellas

    August 9, 2012 at 10:05 pm

    Quick one for you.

Dempsey > Waters or Elliott > Stevie J?

Elliott to Stevie J means ill have Martin as F8, but Dempsey plays as D7 then. In Qual final.

    What do you boys think?

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 10:26 pm

Elliott to Stevie J is my initial thought. But with what Waters does to Geelong… I’d go that and get yourself in the preliminary final. Dusty Martin is a pretty decent F7, so go with that.

  12. Warnie

    August 9, 2012 at 10:06 pm

With no cash, you’ll have to stick with Shaw/Ellis and their shit scores for the rest of the year. Hold the two trades for when another big dog goes down next week or the week after when it is do or die for your team in finals. 1st or 2nd in your leagues puts you in a good position. Hopefully Stanton/Buddy are back next week.

  13. stew42

    August 9, 2012 at 10:11 pm

Warnie mate, love the advice you’re giving out! I have 3 trades left, is it worth going Swan to Ablett then Priddis to Jelwood? Would leave me with one trade and 33k. Cheers

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 10:27 pm

      Swan to Ablett… YES!

      Hold Priddis.

Ahhh what was the chapman news???? Or was cal just teasing because every other forward is out?

  15. discomute

    August 9, 2012 at 10:13 pm

    What was the chapman news??

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 10:30 pm

Rumours that he wasn’t on the flight. Calvin’s mail from a mate at Virgin Australia (Shhhh) said he was on the flight. He is going to investigate more. Thing is, we will know before lockout if he’s out when final teams come through. If he is – I wouldn’t hesitate in trading as it is rumoured to be an old man Chappy Hammy!

  16. The x Factor

    August 9, 2012 at 10:14 pm

    hey warnie… kind of stuck…..

thinking I should trade stants this week for fyfe as I have to play lake in the backline otherwise… (or shaw) and I have swanny but in top 4 most leagues so want to win this week while keeping him for prelims. 2 trades left so that would leave me with one. so should I go through with it?

also with buddy out I have to play treloar or giles…. both been great form but who should I play? gc don’t have a ruckman but treloar could be solid to… which would you choose?

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 10:33 pm

      Some big decisions here X!

Stants for Fyfe is a great trade. Big fan. Go through with it. Fyfe should be good for the finals series you’d think.

Treloar or Giles. Wow. This is a pure toss of the coin. With Brogan out and with Zac Smith out too and not rucking against him, you’d think there are some big points up for grabs. I think he is scoring better though when he spends time up forward. Hmm… both have great recent form.

Toss of my coin says Treloar.

      • The x Factor

        August 9, 2012 at 10:47 pm

ahh… thanks for reassurance on trade warnie! that’s locked.

you just know whoever you chose between giles and treloar will do worse…..

as you said it’s a toss of the coin but I may play giles for better bench cover (treloar can cover whole forward line, giles only rucks) also phillips is playing so giles will get some fwd time.

thanks for that warne dawgs!!!! everyone take note… put treloar in your starting lineup! :p

  17. NiesoFC

    August 9, 2012 at 10:18 pm

    Gibson, Treloar, Martin, Zorko, Silvia

4 on field and 1 on bench

Question is which one on bench?

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 10:36 pm

Wow. I didn’t think we’d be making these decisions now! But with the form of those rookies, they are putting their hand up for selection every week.

In order I’d go with Zorko, Gibson, Treloar, Sylvia and Martin. So Dusty on the pine. REALLY?! Argh. Umm… I think I have to really say Treloar as he is probably prone to a lower score. But is he.

This has really stumped me. Someone else should try to help!

      • Brak

        August 9, 2012 at 10:47 pm

I’m putting Gibson on for Swan, Martin on the bench now Robinson is back.

28 players named this week, carnage seems to be declining, along with my trades, only Swan and Buddy not named.

      • program

        August 9, 2012 at 10:54 pm

I agree, Martin to the bench. Treloar is named in the centre again, and is likely to continue his dominating run.

  18. smooth movers

    August 9, 2012 at 10:24 pm

    Warnie got a dilemma
have swan, stanton and buddy, elimination final and 3 trades.
my two options i am contemplating are swan to murphy and treloar to beams meaning when franklin is back i will have martin as my bench cover
second option is franklin to fyfe and stanton to watson. meaning i get to keep swan but will have to play gibson for two weeks.
    what you think

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 10:39 pm

Option two tickles my fancy as it will get you more points and I think Treloar is just as good cover as Dusty Martin.

    • program

      August 9, 2012 at 10:51 pm

I’m also planning Franklin to Fyfe. Looking at Fanklins DT scores this year, there’s a pretty good chance that Fyfe can match it. Gibson will be good cover during this time.

Treloar is just as good, if not better, coverage than Martin.

  19. Ash

    August 9, 2012 at 10:30 pm

Hi all, can anyone tell me the answer to this?

I’m in top 4 of a league, if I win this week, even though I don’t play next week am I able to trade?

I have 5 trades left if I use 2 this week, I would like to do a downgrade the next week (if possible) leaving me with 2 for the semi final but more importantly the cash to do 2 upgrades.

    Thanks for the help

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 10:40 pm

Yep – you can trade throughout the finals, even if you aren’t playing.

      • Ash

        August 9, 2012 at 10:45 pm

        Cheers for that

  20. Case

    August 9, 2012 at 10:40 pm

    Hey Warnie,

I’m going to pick up a foward/mid for coverage (due carnage)…money is no object (thankgod).

Any thoughts would be much appreciated:

    1. Pav
    2. OKeefe
    3. Danger
    4. Stevie J
    5. Fyfe

    Cheers :)
PS. Leaning toward Danger and Pav

    • program

      August 9, 2012 at 10:46 pm

Any of those players would be a good choice. I’m leaning toward Fyfe and Johnson, purely because they are cheaper.

      • Case

        August 9, 2012 at 10:49 pm

Tough to decide yeah?! Even harder as I have the money for all comfortably. never thought I would be B***** and moaning about that :)

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 10:50 pm

      Ohhh… I like SJ a lot!

Danger has a pretty sweet draw though… I think he might be the highest scorer actually!

      • program

        August 9, 2012 at 10:57 pm

The thing with Dangerfield is that he is the 5th most selected player in DT. So, if your other unique’s are guns, then sure trade to Dangerfield to take him out of the equation. If you’re looking for a point of difference, Johnson is probably your man.

      • Case

        August 9, 2012 at 11:19 pm

Thanks Warnie and Program! I think I will go Danger but I will look at this weeks opponent and check his team (good pt program) and potential match ups later. :)

  21. The Croweater

    August 9, 2012 at 10:40 pm

    2 Questions:

    1. What was your exclusive news about Chappy that you were talking about in your live show?

    2. If Chappy is out, who would you trade in? Already have Beams, Sidey, Robbo, Martin, Zorko with Treloar and Hall as cover and Buddy+Chappy

    • program

      August 9, 2012 at 10:45 pm

      1. Apparently Chappy wasn’t on the plane to Perth. Word is that there isn’t a problem, he’s just on a “later” plane. Make what you will of that!

      2. Have a look at Fyfe and Johnson. These two will be amongst the most traded in this week.

  22. Leigh

    August 9, 2012 at 10:42 pm

    Hey Warnie,
Did I miss Calvins Chapman news??

    • Warnie

      August 9, 2012 at 10:52 pm

Shoot him a tweet (make sure you follow as he will update tomorrow)… but his mate says that Chappy flew over. Hmm. Good thing is that we will know with final team sheets before lockout anyway.

  23. NiesoFC

    August 9, 2012 at 10:42 pm

Sorry for the difficult question Warney.

Would have been made simple if Buddy and Swanny were playing.

Thompson or Dangerfield and Gibson’s chance of playing?

    • Warnie

      August 10, 2012 at 7:40 am

Gibson… no doubt to play at all.

I’d probably get Thompson in over Dangerfield. Bit of a lineball though.

  30. D.Swan

    August 10, 2012 at 12:32 am

    Which Team looks Stronger ?

    A) Make a DPP link Swan > to fwd line trade to fyfe. put treloar or smith in middle.

Def: Deledio, Goddard, Scotland, M.Johnson, Carrazzo, Waters, Gram ( ellis, shaw )
Mid: Ablett, Boyd, Scotty T, Jelwood, Mitchell, Treloar ( gibson, j mac )
Ruck: Cox, McEvoy ( redden, campbell )
Fwds: Beams, Sidebottom, Dangerfield, Chapman, Martin, C.Pearce, Zorko ( d.smith, buddy )

B)No DPP link hold swan, trade buddy to fyfe.

Def: Deledio, Goddard, Scotland, M.Johnson, Carrazzo, Waters ( or anyone ), Gram ( ellis, shaw )
Mid: Ablett, Boyd, Scotty T, Jelwood, Mitchell, gibson ( swan , j mac )
Rucks: Cox , McEvoy ( redden, campbell )
Fwds: Sidebottom, Dangerfield, Chapman, FYFE, C.Pearce, Zorko, Martin ( d.smith, treloar )

    all advice would be great.

    • Warnie

Hold Swan, trade Buddy to Fyfe.

Thanks to the outs, I only have one “tough” decision to make this week – Baguley or Shaw on the field?

There was only 6 points difference between them last week (both around 50) but Baguley did pump out two 80’s before that so I’m leaning towards him.

    • Warnie

      August 10, 2012 at 7:42 am

Yeah – Shaw seems much more hit and miss. I’d back in the Bags!

Chances of Crowley going to Thompson? Thompsons 2nd lowest score this year was against Freo but that was at ‘Subi’. Lowest was against Hawks at MCG.

Thompsons last three at AAMI have been 90, 99 & 80. Before that he’d only been under the ton once this season at home.

Seems like almost all aspects of this game have all come to a head all at once… Exciting times.

Yeah – very high if you ask Calvin. That’s why he isn’t in his calculations.

As you said, very interesting! Makes the game a little more exciting!

    Hey guys,

really stuck at the moment. With two trades left i am facing a donut in my forward line. Im in my top 4 so putting swanny on the bench for Gibson. My forward line players missing are Franklin, Porps, Adams and couch to cover it. Really dont want to cop a zero but am just short of going porplyzia to fyfe. I guess i could go porplyzia to goodes but then i will have only 10k for my last trade and i would definately prefer having a lot more cash to do a final upgrade. Another option could be Franklin to Fyfe with 170k left for final trade which could be an option but dont like trading buddy out when he will be back this week. Any thoughts?
(sorry for posting twice just a bit stuck)

So this week I was going to upgrade Lake – and instead I’m having to cover a donut in the mids AND the forwards.
I’ve taken care of one of those, but because I used up two trades tthis week covering Swan/Buds I’m left with potato head LAKE.

So does Lake get a run this week? Or do I go with my bench cover of Shaw or Ellis?
My gut tells me Lake – but he’s a spud, and he cost me the game last week, putting me in 5th instead of 4th on the ladder. Wo would you pick?

I would put lake on, last time he had two consecutive crappy scores he got his highest score of the season the next game he played

Hey boys I was wondering who would be the best trade for lake got 135k (so anyone really) but wouldn’t mind some spare cash… my back line currently looks like this: Deledio, Scotland, Goddard, Waters, Birchall, Lake, Carrazzo
