Dream Team Extra: Round 14

Who’s hit the headlines this week? What’s the fallout from the weekend? Let’s take a look at a few newsworthy snips, and maybe a bit of juicy goss, that may have an effect on your Dream Team this weekend!

I could almost hear the collective sigh of relief as the last of the multi-bye rounds drew to a close last Sunday evening, with coaches aplenty logging in to Dream Team right on the end of lockout to have a healthy fiddle with their teams to get a full lineup on the park! I don’t blame you – there was nothing more annoying about the bye rounds that seeing gazillions worth of uber premos sitting idle on your bench. But now we get to return to Old School DT and scores well in excess of 2200 as we build to the finals or a march as far up the ladder as we can get. It’s been a surprisingly quiet news week, so this is going to be pretty short and sweet in the lead-in to team sheets tonight and more on the topical side of things to drum up some chatter.

C’mon, what are you waiting for?

Get Your Carrots!

Carding a 118 on return from injury, Carrazzo’s price hasn’t crashed as much as we would have liked. He’ll cost $384,400 this week with a BE of 131 and a projected fall of around $19k.  He’s almost ripe for the picking, but with queries hanging over popular defenders like Ryan Hargrave and Marty Clarke, this could be the week to upgrade them to Carrot. I’m joining the chorus of twatter-sayers in backing him to maintain an average to make the top 3 defenders for the second half of the season.

Pendles Re-Buried

This was not the news we wanted to hear and there are whispers in twitland that he may not be right for a start in R15 either! To this point, we’ve been Pendle-less for four weeks. Had we known that his leg break (unfortunately not of the S Warne variety!) would require extended recovery, I reckon quite a few coaches would have swapped him out for another elite MID. Now that we’re coming to the pointy end of the season, trades are becoming that much more precious and if you’re looking to consolidate your spot on the overall rankings, it’s going to be a hard call as to whether to burn a trade to replace him with another gun or sit tight for possibly two more rounds and rely on your bench cover. Unlike kissing a cousin, there is no right or wrong here, so chuck your thoughts in the comments for some healthy discussion!

Broughton Beaned

Gregory copped a pretty decent whack to the head from team-mate Chris Mayne last weekend. He is under concussion-watch this week, so brace yourself for him to possibly miss this weekend. Of more concern though is this article from the Freo website. Broughton’s been pretty solid after a shakey start to the season, but unfortunately the roller coaster ride could be back if Lyon decides to play him as a defensive forward. Ross does play his sides in a very defensive, lockdown style and if Broughts impressed him last weekend, it may be a bumpy ride for the Gregory’s scores over the next few weeks.

‘Tis The Season

In the run home there’s nothing better than salivating over your final upgrades to complete your team. Although downgrade options are on the lean-ish side of minimal this mid-season, there are a few bargain fallen guns to be had. Of course, these will be covered in @Aki_DT‘s thorough Dream Team Stock Market review. However, I’m pretty keen to hear what your plan of attack is for the wind up to DT Finals. Do you grab the wallet-friendly guns? Or do you accept nothing but the best (price no object) and go for the best across all lines?

Injury Update

For an truly in-depth analysis of the injuries out of last round, head over to Jakub’s excellent Dream Team Medical Room coverage!

Pick Me! Pick Me!

Our rooks are back and barring injury, should provide us with ample cover. I’m not sure how much of this will apply now that you should have pulled most of your upgrades; hopefully you’re only relying on these guys for the occasional run if one of your guns misses. Down back, Darley should be solid once again, with Ellis and Morris also decent and hopefully Shaw getting in amongst it. In the midfield, Shiel has been nicely consistent; Greene, Old Mac, Magner, the Horse and Gibson should also go alright. Giles is looking a bit tired, but if you aren’t looking to flick him then he’s your only real ruck choice. The Zork heads all comers both in the middle and up forward. Next in line in the forwards from him are Elliot, Adams, Treloar and the real surprise packet, Dickson.

Anyways, that’s the rub for this week. Trading? Heard any juicy news bits, gossip or rumours? Got a rant or a rave? Stick it in the comments and let’s get some healthy chatter going. See ya next Thursday for another bout of media trawling and good luck this weekend!

Top article mate… Keeping pendles, flicking Clarke and will wait and see on duffman… Being a freo supporter, I can confirm that duff is a bit soft, but with broughts going forward might be a number friendly move for duff… If he gets a game that is… Wtf Lyon!!!
2398 predicted score this week before bring in maric and carrots….2438 now

Apparently Duff responded well to being dropped in the wafl and is pretty likely to regain his spot

    Cheers TeeTee.

One of my better moves this season was moving Pendles on for Swan as soon as got injured, which contributed to a very healthy rise in the ranks for me over the byes (plus, now I have the Pig in my team!!).

Hoping Broughton can still post some good scores as a forward. I watched the game on the weekend, and his workrate and leading patterns were first rate, he just kept spilling the marks (happened at least 3 or 4 times where he fumbled what should have been an easy mark on the lead). He’ll get better at those, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he bobs up for a 4 or 5 goal bag sometime soon.

Is Golby still worth holding onto? BE of 104 but playing Melbourne… 10 trades remaining. Thinking of upgrading to Scotland or Waters.

Yep, 10 is plenty of trades if you are not planning to make finals!!!

    • Ridley U

      June 28, 2012 at 2:13 pm

I have Golby and every time I want to upgrade him he pulls a big score out of the bag. I have been waiting till next week to go Golby to Carrots hoping that there might only be $15,000 to $20,000 for the cost of the upgrade. Golby is doing everything right to remain in the team though.

I reckon hold this week for sure. People that don’t have him will tell you to trade straight away but his last 5 weeks has been ultra inpressive.

      • Shersto

        June 28, 2012 at 3:52 pm

        Cheers Rids…

My thoughts were given Golby’s high BE (due to lose 12k) and that I don’t see him in my final team make-up, now is the perfect time to bring in Scotland, Waters or Adcock… Adcock loves the Dees (125,123,106) and actually has higher historical 3yr average over his next 4 opponents than Scotland…

        • Ridley U

          June 28, 2012 at 4:21 pm

Adcock is a great choice mate. Very impressed with the level of research!

I got Adcock in round 12 because of that very reason. I was half joking around the other night suggesting him as a real smokey for the top scorer in DT this week.

I also believe that Stanton should have been number 1 this week for Captain’s choice.
His scores this year at Etihad are 153, 116, 193, 140 and 89. His last 3 against the Dogs are 138, 153 and 118.

I will be keeping Golby 1 more week then depending on Carrots score this week he might be on the chopping block. Best of luck!

          June 29, 2012 at 10:38 am

Thanks also mate, I’ll add Adock into my calculations for trading out Clarke now. Also considering Suckling, Birchall, and Mick Johnson.
Next week Bugg/Morris to Carrats will give me Drummond and Bugg/Morris as D8 and D9 for the season.

Defenders cause me so much stress for so little reward!
Cannot wait for Gibbs, Mzungu, and Van Berlo (Ade.) to be added to our defenders list next year.

  11. Just Go Bang!

    June 28, 2012 at 1:04 pm

As hard as it is, I’m holding off Carrots until next week. His price will dip this week by roughly $20K, which will be a bargain to juicy to resist.

    • Megatron

      June 28, 2012 at 2:10 pm

Yep same here. Getting him in for Marty Clarke next week. Already getting suckling in for Gravy.

Would be pretty happy if Marty got dropped this week to prevent further price drops.

      • Slappers

        June 28, 2012 at 4:53 pm

marty clarke is projected to drop $20,000….

so really your not gaining anything by holding off…

the only thing you will gain is a crap score from clarke… and you will lose a good score from carrots…

      • Ingoes

        June 28, 2012 at 6:36 pm

    June 28, 2012 at 1:31 pm

I’m wandering if Carazzo is actually worth the hype…

Heres my situation, I decided that I would probably bring Pearce Hanley in as my 7th defender, which I can do this week if I made cash getting in Campbell (is that his name?) from the bulldogs

However, everyone is talking about how good Carazzo is and it seems he is a must have.

I wanted to see what the fuss is all about, so I have been checking out his scores. This year he has two tons and two 90s out of 5 games then a 1 (injury affected from memory?) Thats great…but thats only 4 games so I don’t know If i want to judge someone based on 4 games.

Then I look back to previous seasons to see how he has done in the past

    2011 – average 92
    2010 – average 82
    2009 – average 85

Pearce Hanley is off a big hundred, is a lot cheaper and averages 83

so the question is, should I wait a week for Carrazzo? is he that good? will he average 100 for the rest of the year or average in the 80s-90s?

Or should I bring Hanley in so I finish my team 1 week early

    • Rambo Tambo

      June 28, 2012 at 2:01 pm

Do not bring in Hanley over Carrazzo! Carrazzo is in career best form and is winning more ball than previous years. Might I remind you that Hanley scored 37 the week before his 134, you’re not likely to get sub 70 scores from Carrazzo.

    June 28, 2012 at 2:02 pm

I want Giles and Marty Clarke out of the team ASAP but not sure how to do it and I’m probably gonna have to do it over 2 weeks. Either downgrade Stephenson this week and then go Giles > Cox. Or downgrade Giles and upgrade one of my rookie backs into a premo. Then somehow sneak in carrots next week.

DEF: Lids, Goddard, Scotland, Suckling, Lake, Clarke, Darley (Shaw, …..Spurr)
MID: Stanton, Boyd, Watson, GAJ, Swan, Hayes (Pfeiffer, Gibson)
RUC: Maric, Giles (Stephenson, S. Rowe{woops})
FOR: Sidebottom, Franklin, Beams, Dangerfield, Martin, Zorko, Goodes (Treloar, Smedts)

    Cash $44,400

    Any advice? Cheers

    • Cooper

      June 28, 2012 at 2:57 pm

Backline is pretty iffy, I’d focus on upgrading Giles and either Clarke, Lake or Darley to Carrots. If your strapped for cash you could upgrade Giles to Ryder, he’s 40k/50k cheaper than Cox and has played solidly

You can’t go wrong either way, both very safe options in defence.

Heppell could be rested come finals time and is more injury prone, so Suckling seems the safer choice.

I’m sorry mate. But Heppell will not be rested. Th bombers will be fighting for a spot in the 4 and if it goes badly from here with there draw maybe even the 8 so theres no way Heppell will be rested. He has also already missed 2 games and had the bye.
Also Heppell is definitley not more injury prone then suckling.
