The Sunday eve knee-jerk Round 4 edition.

So how have you recovered from last week? Did you have a consolidation round or another shocker? Let’s knee-jerk!

The Sunday eve knee-jerk. Round 4 edition

I feel like I’m in a movie….im at the hospital sitting by the bed holding the hand of my dreamteam. It’s got tubes coming out of every orifice and its hooked up to life support. The doctor tells me not many survive trauma like it has suffered the last  2 rounds…and I shouldn’t be too hopeful, he advised me to pull the plug… but I can’t, so I sit… and wait. I won’t give up hope because I can see signs of life…My cash cows- the life blood of a team are still pumping so it’s only a matter of time until things pick back up again. Even this week I have already seen the eyes flicker a little bit…I suppose I just have to stay positive; after all it’s not that bad… Melbourne is in the room next door… Jeez it’s like a morgue in there!

So how have you recovered from last week? Did you have a consolidation round or another shocker? Let’s knee-jerk!

The Legend.

It was a great day for football on Saturday, the ‘raging hot premiership favourites’ Carlton were beaten by another undefeated team Essendon… paying $7.50 the win in a two horse race! Cha chinggg. Anyhow a man instrumental in the result was our legend of this week. Brent Stanton (175). Seriously has there ever been a man suited to DT more? He gut runs, he always kicks and he’s not often tagged because he isn’t perceived as a damaging player. He has been maligned by some moron boo boys in the bomber crowd but has stepped his game to another level this year… even getting some contested possessions! So they can all just shut their traps from now on.  I feel the tags may be right around the corner which should be music to the ears of Watson (101) owners!

The Sunday chop.

Trading always has an element of risk involved… and your personality can dictate the way you trade. I am a bit of a risk taker… I still remember the biggest risk I ever took. I was at the world cup in Germany and had been drinking all game, I chose not to use the toilet until the end… by which time it was too late, I was on the edge… it was so full I couldn’t even squeeze any more.. I just had to open the Shute and hope nobody bumped into me. While I was in the line it all got too much I just had to go, I spied a half person gap between two strangers at the trough and just went for it… I ran in there and lobbed a stream over their hips at which point they quickly parted giving me a spot. To cut a long story short if I am willing to take a risk like that… sideways trading, double trading injury prone mid pricers or trading un-fat rookies is nothing to me. So this week I am considering chopping Adam Kennedy (41). His scores have been going down and down each week…I can feel the General coming, plus it looks like somebody needs to go for the inclusion of Treloar (85). I know Kennedy has more money to make and it goes against all logical wisdom… But so did pissing over the hips of two strangers in Germany… And I came out of that one alive.

The Clown.

I’ve identified two clowns this week, first is Buddy Franklin (76) I mean seriously, who gives away 7 free kicks in a game? Is that some kind of record? I reckon chopper read could play a game and come off with less FA’s than that. 7 frees is 21 points, those are points which would have taken him near the ton, especially needed this week when most were hurting by injuries and omissions. That’s without even mentioning the 6 behinds! Second clown is Raines for  falling onto Gary Abletts (97) leg and hyper-extending his knee. I’m not upset because my captain didn’t crack a ton, because i know most others would have the same.. what does upset me is the fact we will have another week of will he / wont he play.  I’d rather sit and watch the just for men commercial with Luis Figo on repeat then have to go through another week of that. Lookin strong Luis!… still got it.

The this game sh*ts me.

It was Thursday night and I was styling. I was like Neo in the Matrix just learning how to use his skills. The DT gods were firing bullets at me and I was swaying under and around them all in slow motion… Bang Bang Bang they came… Lake, Shaw, Thomas.. Dodge, Dodge Weave. Bang Bang Bang….Redden, Cameron, Green.. Sway Dodge, Sway… It was getting too easy for me, I’m then fighting agent Smith with one hand… all casual…Luenburger, Goodes, Smith, Grimes… meh is that the best you’ve got?  I’m all cocky now… cruising through Friday like the king of my own matrix… Friday night and sh*t storm number 2 hits…Big O, omitted, Mummy out… Hahaha all I can do is laugh… now the rookie ruck players are stuffed too… I’m waltzing through unscathed. This is so easy! in fact I might trade out Golby… just for the sake of it. This upset the DT gods… they send out some more sentinels to attack me and they knocked me off balance.. Birchall, out, Fyfe.. Out.. Ouch! Golby (100) tons up and…then the killer blow…. I think my gloating about the ruck situation pissed the DT gods off real bad… So much so that my ‘premium’ ruck duo managed a combined score of 15 more than Giles in total….. And that’s why Dreamteam sh*ts me.

The other bits and pieces.

Years ago we had the Daicos ball; it had little patches on the sides to teach you how to kick a dribble goal… (Did this teach a generation of dribble kickers in the AFL today?) Then we had the Warnie spin king ball… that taught you how to bowl leg spin. Now we have the Buddyball! …that teaches you how too… ummm shank hook a kick? Run in on an arch? Give away 7 frees? Anyway… I thought I’d put my marketer’s hat on and try for a few new products.

The Gibbspray – spray a little of this on and you won’t have a man come near you all game!

The Monfries springboard – a little practice with this kit and you’ll be scoring 10’s diving just like the man himself!

The Juddpack – Put on your Juddpack and you too can carry a whole team on your shoulders!

The BettsBag – Forget about a locker… you may get your wallet stolen! Buy a pair of these oversized novelty Bettsbag shorts and you’ll have enough room to take all your belongings on the ground with you, comes with handy Velcro compartments for all your personal needs.

The Martinator – Ever wanted to don’t argue like Dustin Martin? Put this guard on your forearm and shove away!

Selwoodslip – Apply liberally some selwoodslip before the game and you’ll have tackles slipping up round your neck in no time.  Bandages sold separately.

KennedyShufflers – with a pair of the kennedyshuffle boots you will be stutter shuffling in to goal like the man himself.

Lloydgrass – keep a pocket full of Lloyd grass in your pocket, Available in team colours, these waterproof, reusable blades of grass will help gauge an accurate wind direction, even in indoor stadiums, helping preserve the real turf.

Got any other bright marketing ideas out there?

So that’s about it for this Sunday night. Personally I had a mare…JUST scraped in with a pathetic 1923. Magner tagging Boyd hasn’t helped matters seeing I own them both! Hows your score ? What knee-jerk thoughts do you have  about the round just passed? Any nominations for Legend, Chop, Clown or why this game sh*ts you? Get it down now before we get rational again in time for Tbettas bullets!

Hit me up with any thought on twitter @adzman78

So you think you had it bad losing Carrots?

:-D I, like many, swapped out Shaw for Carrots. Also had Gary Rohan. Oooh yeah, my unique point of difference. My secret weapon. Ha ha ha!!!! :-(

and, yep..Boyd was Captain. Still got just under 2000.

On the positive side, still very happen that I traded out Goodes for Stanton a few weeks back.
Unfortunately, I wanted to have trade free week, but will have to use another 2 trades I guess.

      April 23, 2012 at 9:19 am

Who are you trading Carrots to?

      • Harper

        absolutely no idea!!!

    thoughts on carrots to drummond?

    • Stuart

      April 23, 2012 at 7:59 pm

Good upside on the $ and Drummond looking solid could be a potential lock, I took him to off load Hurn for some quick $ and a Barlow injection to my mids.

      plenty of worse options

ok gone carrazzo to waters but who is going to take carrazzos spot as the tagger cause ive got gibbs and it looked like it was him on the weekend can some carlton supporters tell me who the next tagger is??

    • Ridley U

      April 23, 2012 at 1:20 pm

Armfield or Russell have done it before. Gibbs would be my pick though. Gibbs actually scores well in that role usually.

    April 23, 2012 at 9:55 am

Thin I’ll be waiting for the Wise heads advice on this.
Plenty of excellent articles to come this week. :-)
but..i think I’ll be going Rohan to Luke DoggieHouse. He’s going really well.

    April 23, 2012 at 10:20 am

I’m going Carrazzo to Waters but with the other trade should I get Fyfe out or what are the chances of him returning soon to someone like robinson

Or downgrade Kennedy to Trealor and next week upgrading a mid rookie to Barlow or Rockliff

  6. Kelvin

    April 23, 2012 at 10:26 am

Man, am I glad I did trade last week. Had Shaw, Birchall and Fyfe to stew over and in the end decided to hold off on trading and see what happened during round 4 and play my rookies. Ended up being a good decision…

    Was contemplating trading:
    – Shaw to Carrots (played Ellis and Townsend instead of Shaw and Birchall)
    – Fyfe to Whitecross (put Kennedy on the field in place of Fyfe)

Even though I only scored in the mid 1900’s for the round, it looks like it has saved me some trades which in the long run look far more valuable :)

  9. Adam

    April 23, 2012 at 11:11 am

Are most people using two trades this week because if i do i have18 left is that to little to have at this time and also is it the right time to downgrade Shiel to Treolar??

    • Adam

      April 23, 2012 at 11:41 am

can i have some thoughts please

      • Ridley U

        April 23, 2012 at 1:28 pm

No. Shiel may end up as my permanent bench cover depending on the role Magner gets this week.

Shiel is coming good nicely and will continue to go up in price for a few weeks yet. He also has a bigger body than most of the other kids so should have more chance of playing without a rest.

If that isn’t enough, pretty sure that Shiel is with Choco Williams’ daughter. Stick with him Adam. The kid is a star.

    • Kiwiii

      April 23, 2012 at 11:54 am

I think you shouldn’t do it, Shiel’s breakeven is -22, if he only maintains his average of 59, he will still make you 60k in the next three weeks, when the chances are he might even increase his average. While you might make 80k from the downgrade, you will end up downgrading treloar later also and there goes two trades, will Treloar maintain his average? Questionable, look at Adam Kennedy, Toby Greene, all the rage but they’ve either been sore, or their scores have lowered. That’s because they are rookies.

Basically i’d say no, don’t. Downgrading someone like Adam Kennedy on the other hand, is definitely worth considering, I feel that the general is just around the corner and you don’t want cash cows missing games. Plus his scores have progressively worsened and his BE is 21.

  10. Garrett

    April 23, 2012 at 11:24 am

I can’t see Fyfe getting up this week, so have to think about team changes.
Hoping for some feedback. Good, bad, or whatever don’t be shy.

Fyfe – Ziebell/Sidebottom? Impressed Ziebell backed up his great R3 score against the Swans. Sidebottom has higher projections, but has a higher cash outlay.

And Phil Davis –> Marty Clarke? Shouldn’t have had Davis to begin with probably, but he’s made me a little money. Can’t see him making much more, and already have Bugg in my backline.

Yeah it’s two trades, but I still have 21 left.

    • Benatration

      April 23, 2012 at 11:29 am

Fyfe would have played last Friday if his team really needed him. He’ll be fine

    • Ridley U

      April 23, 2012 at 1:38 pm

The Clarke train has left and is about a third of the way to it’s destination. The ticket to travel only cost $141000 2 weeks ago but you will now be paying a very inflated $234000 to catch that train. The other thing you need to think about is that the Clarke train wont finish where you intend to go. So in a few weeks time you will be needing to transfer to another train that will take you to PremoLand. Everyone wants to end up at PremoLand before the end of the season. This is where you want to end up. Being stuck in MidPrice Valley is not a great idea.

      Hope this will help you!

      • Garrett

        April 23, 2012 at 2:16 pm

Yeah it does cheers. I wasn’t that sold on Clarke to be honest. Might have to just hold off on to Davis until he bottoms out.
As for Fyfe, with Goodes back and my GWS rookies I have bench cover if he doesn’t get up this week. Will give him that chance.
Surely I won’t have two terrible weekends in a row.
This team started with two solid >2000 scores in the first two weeks, and has gone backward since.
But it is making me money.

What is the deal this week with trades, if i make trades today (that dont involve any Collingwood or Essendon players) Can i reverse those changes, when the teams are named on thursday?

    • Ethan

      April 23, 2012 at 11:46 am

Na man, after Wednesdays game starts. You cannot reverse trades. So if you’ve made trades, You’re stuck with them, if you don’t want to put any Collingwood or Essendon players into your team then just don’t make any trades untill Friday when you’re sure they are the right trades. Just like the old days

  14. McScoundrel

    April 23, 2012 at 11:42 am

I’m stating the obvious but I still want to state it…what shits me is my own players shutting down my other players. The Porp is set to go massive and Bugg is on fire. What happens? Sheeds puts a fork in Buggy’s spokes by putting him on Porp and they cancel each other out. Dangerman is more concerned with Shiel than getting a few +6s. And then there’s Magner on Boyd. So Magner becomes a tagger and there’s still no room for Couch?!! Anyway it’s too late for Couch and his vests…I’ll be getting on the Pfeiffer

Should i do these trades Carrots > Waters

    McCarthy > Ebert

    • McScoundrel

      April 23, 2012 at 11:51 am

McCarthy to Ebert is a dud if you’ve used so many already. You should get the big guns not the little guns.

      • Adam

        April 23, 2012 at 12:02 pm

he looks like a big gun 108 average??

        • McScoundrel

          April 23, 2012 at 12:09 pm

Looks can be deceiving. If you don’t have Mitchell, Murphy or Watson or Stanton then these are the sort of players you should be looking at. Some of the cheaper players are great if you have them in your original team but poison if you jump on them.

        • Ridley U

          April 23, 2012 at 3:02 pm

Be careful Adam especially if you travel to Thailand or Vietnam.

Things may look appealing over there but you end up with a surprise you really don’t want.

If you don’t understand what I am referring to just ask Dad. Mum wont answer you ;-)

2-3 week injury…..Ablett is confident he can be back sooner. Sounding more a 2 week injury than a 3 week injury. I wouldn’t be trading if it is just a 2 week injury…but a 3 week injury….I’d honestly consider it

    • Kiwiii

      April 23, 2012 at 12:12 pm

Overall vs League aspirations play a big part in it, if you’re lookin at overall you just cant afford to miss out on an average of 110 per week minimum. I’m definitely all about leagues but my pride gets in the way! and im just on the edge of the top 1000 for a change!

The problem will be that GAJ will hold the line that he will be back in 2 weeks so most will hold. If he doesn’t, then it will always be “back next week” – and 2 can turn into 4 or 5 in the blink of an eye. That’s Dream Team at it’s best – never really sure!!

      It’s bloody tempting…..

I am thinking of maybe just getting the 5th premium mid a week earlier than planned. I really don’t want to get rid of Magner, Shiel or Greene yet though.

      • Zan

        April 23, 2012 at 1:17 pm

I was think’n that or SMJ to Barlow (save the mony)
then Get SMJ back with the M6 MooMoo cow + money I have , So I would have 6 guns after that

        • Ridley U

          April 23, 2012 at 1:45 pm

The year that it has been means that if I go SMJ >> Barlow then be assured Barlows will be rested with leg soreness lol

One rule I have is if I trade someone out, no matter who they are, they will not be getting another shot for the rest of the year. SMJ might be the exception.

          SMJ >>> Old Mac/Treloar
          then in 3 weeks
          Magner/Kennedy >>> SMJ

Pretty convinced that neither of us would do that. Not too convinced others wont though haha

My VC is going onto Pendles. I would be tempted with Watson if I was you.

Dt Sl#ts are great. DT Sl#ts with a history of leg soreness this year already means that the risk of catching something you really want is increased.

That will be my tip for the most popular trade this week.
            Ablett >>> Barlow

Hi guys. Is this an insane strategy in your opinion?

Trade Fyfe (after the is is isnt he game) -> Treloar
Trade Abblet (after the is is isnt he game)/or Redden -> Jmac

Both about to have substancial price rises which might be stupid to miss.
Also in the next few weeks a couple of the rookies I have will get close to peaking, and I could trade in whoever I like with all that extra cash.

leaves me a bit vulnerable with so many rookies so yes it depends on who is named. I’m not playing really strong opposition next few weeks so this is a long term plan.

      • Ridley U

        April 23, 2012 at 1:56 pm

Old Mac will mean bye bye Magner. Just feels wrong to milk cows that aren’t quite there yet.

        Looking at this for now:
        Magner >>> Old Mac
        Caddy >>> Rocky
Greene has too much growth in him. Shiel is looking like the bench cover required for the bye rounds.

Mids will be Swan, Pendles, Rocky, Thommo, Old Mac, Greene bench Ablett, Shiel

Could wait another week on the trades and just go to Pfieffer. If I do both trades I will have 19 left but will have only 2 upgrades left to do in the backs and 3 upgrades left in the forwards with 1 in the rucks (but this will be round 11 upgrade)

        Food for thought

With -119 BE, I’d go with Old Mac too

    Last week I had a master plan…

    1. Carrazzo into mids for Fyfe
Then this week, strengthen defence by dropping S Selwood
moving Carrazzo to def and bring Barlow into mids

    2. Gets some $$… JMac in for Shiel

The DT gods obviously decided they’ll be having none of that!

    Do I…
    A. Continue def plan with Goddard or Scotland?
Which will now require 2 trades, or
    B. Forget DPP link, upgrade mids, Carrots to a Stanton, Mitchell or Pendles
and still go for JMac cash?

1st4 def: Lids, Malceski, Broughton, Clarke…
1st4 Mid: Ablett, Murphy, Boyd, Swan

    Any thoughts?

        Thanks for the reply Rhys
Do seem to be leaning towards God, especially v Melb… Scotland v GWS next week could be good too,
although planning ahead is what got me into this mess in the first place…

God is always a safer bet than scotaland. scotland is consitant, but God gets those huge scores that you need against shit teams

I had OldMac, Thompson, Magner, Porps, Dangerfield all losing points due to tagging. Add to that The Chad (who I took a punt on at the start of the year, I did not trade him in after good performances in week 1 and 2), Horlin-Smith (who I traded in instead of Treloar because I didn’t want too many GWS forwards coming up to their bye), Kennedy, Riewoldt of the Jack variety, and my 2 rucks Cox and HMac (both outscored by my emergency Giles, who was facing up against Jacobs who I consider to be a better ruckman than what Cox and HMac had to contend with).

Seriously, one person tell me that you are satisfied with your forward line and your premium rucks. I’ll be taking notes if there is someone…

I’m satisfied with my rucks, but only because i didnt pick any premiums.
Giles and Kruezer have been out scoring alot of so called ruck premos this year.

I picked them to spend more elsewhere, planning an upgrade of one of them to a round 11 ruck premo like cox before round 12 lockout.
so far I am happy with that choice.

I’m thinking Carrots to Golby, and Palmer to Hayes. Can bench Ablett with some confidence that way. Hmm

    Fucking Raines!

Wait up a minute. I woulnt be jumping on to golby just yet.
His only had one 85+ plus score from 4 rounds.
      Been pretty inconistent too

I know, but he is the best of a bad mid range downgrade options for me.

have morris, and lids, too many richmond players, ellis is an option. Ablett has caused all this.

Kennedy downgraded to Treloar which allows an Ellis to Waters upgrade?

I am concerned that they haven’t quite fattened up enough but don’t want to miss the Treloar boat.

kennedy iseither a this week trade or next week. his BE is still 27 so id wait. leave ellis, he still has plenty of cash to gain, his BE is -20.

        April 23, 2012 at 7:08 pm

and ellis is scoring solidly. no point getting rid of him.

        April 23, 2012 at 7:54 pm

Thanks rhys, agree with holding onto ellis, but I am not sure about the logic in being prepared to hold onto Kennedy for 1 more week when he will likely go up $18k when Treloar is on the bubble and set to go up at least $70k.
        Tough one really.
