My Team 2012: Version 1.0

Monty’s Fanplanner over on FanFooty.com.au has already had coaches putting potential teams together for 2012. The prices aren’t locked in yet and we don’t even have all of the players drafted, but we can use this as a guide. So this is version 1.0 of our AFL Dream Teams for 2012. Have a play, post it up and comment on other teams!

Here is the place for you to post your FanFooty Fan Planner teams. If you don’t know what we’re talking about, head on over to FanFooty.com.auand sign up if you don’t have an account already and click the “Fan Planner” logo.

Monty has predicted prices for all players eligible for selection in the 2011 AFL Dream Team (and SuperCoach) working on the actual salary cap. They won’t be 100% so make sure you don’t set your heart on the team you make as there will be some changes when DT opens on February 1.

To make it easier, please post your team in the following format, remembering we’re back to 7 defenders (2 bench), 6 midfielders (2 bench), 2 ruckmen (2 bench), 7 forwards (2 bench):

TEAM NAME: Warne Dawgs
DEF: A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player (A. Player, A. Player)
MID: A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player (A. Player, A. Player)
RUC: A. Player, A. Player (A. Player, A. Player)
FWD: A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player, A. Player (A. Player, A. Player)
CASH LEFT: $9,999

Monty has made it easy to copy and paste at the bottom of your team. Highlight and copy the section after “Code for copying and pasting on the Dream Team Talk blog:” and then paste it into the comments. Thanks Monty!!

Post your team up, but make sure you comment on other people’s teams… constructively! Hit the reply button on the team you’re commenting on so it’s easy to keep track of! Have fun!

* If you’re reading in the future, these are for teams pre-drafts and the finalised pricing from the Assistant Coach.

Not many R/F’s with the bye in rnds 11 & 12, hey? lol.
Really freakin scary for those basing their team to avoid nuts in MBRs!
I wonder if any more R/F’s pop up when VS release player prices….???

I’m not convinced you would be able to afford this team when the real prices come out, but it’s a good team!

I think the riskiest players are Hayes and Kruzer. Hayes might have it in him but I have the fear.

And I don’t think Kruzer is going to become injury free all of a sudden. It’s a cruel world.

      @James

you should really consider Zorko in your forward line, cheap, reliable and will make you some handy cash.

      Nice team.

Backs: I refuse to pick Birchal due to the chance he will be rested. And I don’t have the courage for Lake at the moment. I would need to be convinced by pre-season hype and the NAB cup comedy festival (under lights no less!)

Mids: I’m not convinced Barlow can run around after that break, but like they used to say at Werribee, ‘He could get a kick in the car park.’

Forwards: Johnson is still recovering from his injury that was flared up by playing under the influence of pain killing injections. (please note, being injected with pain killing drugs is not illegal!)

Brown will never play 22 games, I hope. He should miss a few with speech therapy. (Did Carlton’s ‘Stick’s’ teach this man to talk or what?)

And Kreuzer, well, how long till he breaks down? He could be the first player ever to retire from years of injuries and still have acne.

Here’s my Gun’s n’ Rook’s team so far. Aiming for the league win.

I am not even going to try to avoid the carnage in the bye rounds. I am just going to try and have a team that is good enough to get to the finals without wins during multi-bye rounds.

And, I figured I needed at least $235,000 left over to cover the price difference when official prices come out.

Awesome Team, looking really solid, my only concern is that you have no mid/fwd dpp’s in the mids? mabye put Zorko in the mIds and find another mid/fwd in fwd line, Ugle, Kerridge etc.

Grimes is such a risk- 6 games TY and 14 LY, only 2 premium Defenders although the best rookies. I’m running Voldt and JB in the fwds too. I reckon they have to much to offer and have unfinished business!!!

      • Birdy

valid point, howeer i am going cheaper ( Grimes, Lake) in the backline because i don’t have alot of faith in the more expensive broughton and shaw, or enright who i think could be past it, if scotand was a year or 2 younger he would be in there

Malceski should bounce back from a disappointing 2011

    Winderlich averaged 87.7 in 2010

      December 19, 2011 at 1:59 pm

Your fwd line is way too risky for me, I feel you need more established guns like Fyfe, Cloke etc, but then again if Gray and Christensen have massive Breakout sesons, Brown, Didak and Winderlich recapture their old form you will be laughing :) – could go either way.

Id go with Heppell, racks em’ up at half back and occasionally bursts through the midfield – averaged 83 in his 1st year. Watch Broughton in NAB cup to see what role Lyon gives him, if he’s playing midfield then mabye lock him in. Scotland is too old now and I think Grimes is good value but too risky.

food for thought, so really we should put dpp’s like Martin in the mids to start with, then we can use his dp to bring in a mid rookie as opposed to a fwd rook, as there are often better rookies in the mids than other positions, either way martin ends up a fwd which is what you want

    • Mezzoculo

      December 23, 2011 at 12:35 pm

That’s the opposite of my thinking – the new rule means you don’t *need* to start with any ‘connected’ DPP links.

Did a rough comparison of the 2011 figures and found that DPP (cashcows and premiums) tend to outscore vanilla DEF/FWDs (also true for GCS – the team that GWS will be most similar to in 2012, scoring wise) .

At this stage, I plan to load up on DPP players in the FWD/DEF line and fill the centreline with with quality MIDs that should get early games and score bettern than their DPP counterparts. This gives flexibility in the future – I can trade out MID cashcows, replace them with an existing DPP and fill that gap with a FWD/DEF rookie who’s about to burst.

Same strategy with the rucks too. Sam Rowe (if he plays early) in the FWD line provides a contingency plan in case of an injury in the rucks (touch wood).

Thought guys? not sure if my midfield is right, few risks in the fwd line.

Also interested in a high ranked league, if anyone has spots left it would be great. Reached top 400 midway through last year but dropped to finish just outside the top 1000, in what was my first proper year :)

Hoskin-Elliott isn’t a particularly good DT scorer, and doesn’t really offer much value at ~$160K. Try someone like Jason Porplyzia, Jeremy Cameron or Gary Rohan as an alternative. Cameron in particular could be a very sound choice, as he is a prospective power forward in a similar vein to No 1 draft pick Jonathon Patton. Thing is, Patton has knee tendonitis and will likely miss Round 1.

Your team is pretty good though.

Lee Spur looks like he will be a good pick if he gets regular games early for freo. Has played 5 years at Sanfl level with very solid numbers, this last year especially. Strong fella as well
