I want some more Hawks: Round 14 Review

Friday night set the scene for this weekend… those Hawks out there racking up a truckload of touches. It is always a worrying thing when that is the highlight of the Round, it is always downhill from there. Plenty of things to worry about with injuries and those bloody late withdrawals this week. Did you field 22 and get a decent score? Tell us now!

On the Chopping Block: Batchelor upgrade to premium defender.

No donuts thanks to my emergencies Jacobs and Richo. An ok score and leagues are all going well (except for my cash league which Frog A Doodle FFW is dominating), but finding it very difficult to climb up the overall ladder, even with an almost finished team.

I’m ranked near you IC, and feeling the same way… have traded a lot to improve a shonky team to begin with, but seem to be taking two steps forward to three steps back. Just once, I’d love to go through a round without an LTI or major suspension affecting my score. Just far-king once!

Will it cost me too many points downgrading Sandi to a Lobbe/Vardy type and playing the rest of the season out with Cox, Smith and (Bailey)? I know Smith’s scores have dropped a bit but the $250K I would make going Sandi > Lobbe would let me finish my team.

Otherwise I’m thinking Sandi > McEvoy.

    • Magpie28

Too much ruck coin on the pine if you get McEvoy… go Lobbe

Happy to say that I am becoming a serious dreamer now… This is my 3rd year, first year was dismal, second year was reasonable… but i have quickly picked it up. I am currently 10th in my league, but have one my last 4, with the next 4 being all below me on the ladder i am a sure thing for finals. I feel as though i can do some damage. 4th in overall points (which i have been playing for) so i am happy with that… Behind 3 people who are very good Dreamers.

    Sandi trade:
I have Cox, Sandi, Smith and Campbell as my rucks, however in my forward line I have Petrie. I was thinking of going:
Ulmitately my starting rucks will be Smith and Sandi as I need Petrie in my forward line. The Sandi to Lobbe trade is just so that Petrie can fill in for Cox this week and so that if needed Petrie or Lobbe can fill in for Cox or Smith throughout the season. This trade also gives me the cash to go Krak—>ROK and finish my forwards. Then I still have extra money in which next round I will go B.Smith—>DEF gun.
    A couple of things:
-Is Smith good enough to run out the season?
-Is 6 trades left enough (these trades included) too see out the season, even though my teams set?

On the Chopping Block: No-one really. Would love to drop Dixon and McKernan, but I can’t afford to atm.
Vent/Brag/Whatever: Blaaah. Bought in Shaw this week, I put Howard on field instead of Nicholson (which in hindsight was really dumb, because Nicholson was named on field), I played Hibberd over Jacobs and played Mzungu over Prestia, who was backed up by McKernan as an emergency. Not a good week! My lack of cover in the forward line is really showing atm. It’s going to hurt during the multi-bye too, but at least I can’t lose :P Aiming to get Fisher and another upgrade in the forward line to finish my team. Oh, also glad that the king is back and in good form! Swanny may find himself my lock-in captain for the rest of the season now.

    • Magpie28

      June 27, 2011 at 12:43 pm

He couldn’t get a game a few weeks ago… also remember Howe and Lynch? Different style player, I know, but I wouldn’t be looking to rooks for consistent big scores. Not saying he can’t do it mind you, but if he turns in a stinker from time to time I wouldn’t be surprised.

        June 27, 2011 at 12:50 pm

He was injured for a bit there. He has good pace and the potential to score big I just wonder what will happen when he gets tagged or if he will get tagged?

          • matho

            June 27, 2011 at 2:00 pm

he won’t get tagged but in a game where hawthorn will get shut down like against collingwood this weekend he won’t get fed all that outside ball

  15. footyfacts

    June 27, 2011 at 12:41 pm

there was only one stud this week and that was drew petrie, besides the whole of hawthorn (but thats a group effort)

9 contested marks wtf, 1 more and he would have had the same as the whole of ports team.

The guy was everywhere in the game, spiking it to harvey. taking one handers. If drew was in NAB jam he would have “been on fire”

100 odd points in Dt didnt reflect how much he dominated, (Just to note i dont support north, drew should come replace nick at the saints)

Have had the worst run of luck lately. Sandilands goes, Mundy 2 traded out. Then Bartel 2 injured then copped a Bartel 0 this week when the Gu dropped out as emergency. Add to that a Watson 33 and injury. FMDT. My lucks gotta change sooner or later and im still within striking distance i think.

    score: 1884

worst week i can remember in a long time. not necessarily score-wise but just in terms of how badly my team performed in comparison to the other teams at the top. all around me were 2200 and 2300’s and i pop up with the score i don’t want to refer to again. didak on debut, terrible. sandi, terrible. howe, terrible. harvey, terrible. swallow, terrible. Mzungu, terrible (had richo on bench but chose emergencies in other 3 positions). no bartel, terrible. no buddy, terrible. geeeee i think i’ve bitched enough about my team this week.

gonna bounce back with 2300 this week with inclusions of buddy, bartel, goldstein (for sandi), roo, goddard and fisher. bring on round 15!

On the Chopping Block: Sandilands is goneski, if Lobbe gets a game he will be in. Means that i will have some juicy cash for upgrades.
Vent/Brag/Whatever: What a shit week, didn’t cop a donut but had injuries, suspensions, and withdrawals left, right and centre. Sandi to Lobbe (or someone else, depending on teams), Krak will turn into Pav this week, And puopolo into suckilng/birchall/shaw or even fisher next week. Possibly one more forward too in the near future. Despite the shit score, the boys are looking good. Some solid training this week should enable both adcock and bartel to make their return.

Vent/Brag/Whatever: I had Smith as my mid cover and had mzungu on the field in my forwards so he didn’t actually get a game… Also had 2 donuts in my backline with Duigan, Adcock, Toy, Brodie Smith and Goddard all not playing. For a round where I had 3 donuts and only 4 of my on-field players cracked the ton, 1,828 isn’t too bad a score!
