Trade Talk Round 12 – Upgrade time

If these next 3-4 weeks are not some of the most important weeks in the DT year, I don’t know what is. We got cash cows for money, and this is the time where that money comes into use.

It’s upgrade time! That time of season where we look at our team and begin to make some changes. That time of season where we realise we can’t keep rookies forever. That time of season where we want more premiums in our team. Now is when we start upgrading our rookies and cash-cows to premiums like Pendlebury and Ablett. We start to get our team ready for the finals.

In these next 4 weeks, trade hard. Use your trades. There is no point keeping your trades if you’re not going to use them. Trade out your cash-cows (yes, I know it hurts because they’ve done so much for you) and get in some premiums. I think some really popular trades are going to be Swallow to Ablett, Lower to Scotland and Krakouer to Stevie J. The format here is pretty simple – rookie to premium, rookie to premium, rookie to premium. By the end of this period, your team should be complete, whole and absolute. Or in other words, a premium team.

Who to upgrade (The rookies that now need to go. They’ve done us so much good, but their time is over):

–        Swallow

–        Harris

–        Lower

–        Darling

–        Duigan

–        Liberatore

–        Matera

–        Tapscott

–        Stanley

–        Crameri

–        Krakouer

Who to get in (The premiums you’re getting for these rookies):

–        Ablett

–        S. Johnson

–        Scotland

–        Pendlebury

–        Goodes

–        Murphy

–        Pavlich

–        Rishchitelli

–        Franklin

–        Boyd

–        Broughton

And then there’s the rookies (and mid-priced) who became keepers and you don’t wanna trade them, such as Heppell, Smith, Knights, Adcock and Sheils.

Copy and paste this format into your comments-

can someone give me an update on my team. any suggestions welcome..

Defenders: Gibbs, Adcock, Delideo, Goddard, Heppel, Lower, Duigan (Stanley, Puopolo, B.Smith)
Mids: Pendlebury, Swan, Thompson, Swallow, Cross, Selwood (Conca, Harris Bewick)
    Rucks: Cox, Sandilands (Z.Smith, M.Curnow)
Forwards: Fyfe, Goodes, Franklin, Reiwoldt, Knights, Darling, Krakeour (Mzungu, T.Lynch, Richardson)
    Trades: 15
    Bank: $162,000
very much aiming for league wins and hoping to come good in finals time. therefore am trying to avoid any kangas geelong carlton and essendon players due to byes.
trades burnt me last season so im leaving my run until late. might need to start soon though
any upgrade/downgrade possibilities i should be looking at??

With your coin and available Trades, I’d be going Duigan to Broughton this week before his price gets back to where it was at the start of the year. That gets rid of one of your Carlton players for the finals bye time.

I’d then be looking at your forwards and getting on the Didak bandwagon. Either one of Krak or Darling would be a good trade. He’s now coming into a little form after regaining fitness and the extra time in the midfield this week in the absence of Swan and Thomas will be sure to ensure he scores well.

I’d then be looking at trading whichever one of Darling or Krak you held onto to Colin Sylvia in two to three weeks when his price tag hits around the 300k mark after his corked leg 21 score on the weekend.

Only other thing left to do would be to get rid of Harris for a Fwd/Mid rookie to give you some more coin and add the flexibility of DPP with some of your forwards and assist with coverage.

Good team and position to be in.

It makes me laugh how many people kept Curnow but now after he’s back and played his first game after an injury everyone wants to trade him out. Why did anyone keep him to begin with? He was never quite going to be a mid premium and he wasn’t going to make you any serious cash while he was injured or in the first few weeks after he got back..

If youve kept Curnow this long, you mayaswell keep him as 7th mid.

guys i don’t want to ask too much but i am a first year dt’er and would just like some advice on what i do next (i have 11 trades left and only 10k in bank):

backs – gibbs deledio goddard suckling heppell duigan lower (hibberd mckernan otten)

mids – pendles boyd swan selwood hodge d.swallow (harris jacobs i. smith)

rucks – cox z.smith (vickery bailey)

fwds – goodes franklin pavlich n.riewoldt knights chapman darling (matera richardson mzungu)

guess i have 2 more downgrade/upgrade weeks to leave me with 7 trades for rest of season?

i think duigan needs to become an upgrade but then do i upgrade d.swallow or harris or do i upgrade darling, leaving d.swallow as 7th mid?

and who seems like the most obvious option for downgrading to free up some cash? mckernan (only 170k tho)? matera? harris?

any comments greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

      June 7, 2011 at 11:49 pm

sorry, that should be “d.swallow as 6th mid”*

    • cichster

      June 7, 2011 at 11:52 pm

      downgrade harris, upgrade d.swallow
downgrade mckernan, upgrade otten, or if not enough case do a double downgrade there and upgrade duigan with left over cash going to an upgrade of matera/darling depending on available cash
that would be my strategy, albeit a general one

I reckon you need to get Swallow / Harris to become a premium Mid / Fwd like a Fyfe or Sylvia so you’ve got another DPP in the midfield IMO

thanks guys, appreciate the help i am fast finding out how despite the fact that there are a relatively small proportion of players that are considered as useful for Dreamteam (as premiums or downgrades), there always seems to be unlimited options for trades. does my head in! never know what to do lol

Can anyone help me here! Im thinking Id better do some trades (follow some of this articles advice etc) – Im relatively new to DT/SC – I currently have 11 trades left, how many trades should I keep in the bank so that I can do the best or not be caught short in the finals?

    • Albert Lloyd

      June 8, 2011 at 7:04 pm

Most people are thinking 7/8, any more than that would be excessive.

Also depends on how many sideways trades during the finals you may need to make.

Should I upgrade to Deledio or Enright?

    • Albert Lloyd

      June 8, 2011 at 7:05 pm

      101% Lids.

Averages more AND no finals bye AND DPP.

      And doesn’t get 64s!

Tonight or tomorrow I will trade out Ryder for Vardy or Bailey. JS will decide it for me, what do you think?

    • brady3

      June 9, 2011 at 1:50 pm

Yeah good trade, Vardy is looking pretty good,,,

      • crispy

        June 9, 2011 at 3:30 pm

Yeah I’m sick of Ryder stinking up my DT. Already got Cox, Smith and Keefe so the only time Vardy will have to stand up is the Cox bye on round 15. I think I’ll be happy with Vardy if he’s named this week.
