U18 AFL Championships 2011

Tim is having a look at the NAB Under 18 Championships as they take place over the next few weeks. Check out his spreadsheet with the better DT players from the games in round one.

Hey guys, it’s Tim again. Remember, that guy from Round 5 who wrote a round review then you never heard from him again. Well it turns out that school work in Year 11 is actually a lot more demanding than I thought so, considering how everyone loves a cash cow, I’ve decided to help everyone out before next season (yes, I know it’s still 9 months away) by creating a spreadsheet with all the best fantasy scores from the Under 18s AFL Championships, which for those who didn’t know started this weekend.

I have only included those players who are fantasy-relevant (i.e. those who have scored above 80 from every team), as well as those who have excelled in another area, such as tackles, marks, goals or hitouts. Another important stat I’ve included is the kick: handball ratio for every player, because as we all know, we want players in our teams who get use +3s instead of +2s, not Jobe Watsons of 2010.

In the actual spreadsheet though, there are two sheets. The first is all the raw data which you can order by position (based on me watching the games, and the line-ups listed on the AFL websites), K: H ratio, state etc. The second is a sheet which you can use to compare players. I find that sometimes it is easier for me to make decisions about which players to pick when the stats are more obvious, so if you are the same, you can use this sheet as well.

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the spreadsheet and I’ll update it after each round.

Legendary! For a 2nd year DTer looking to take it more seriously next season this kind of information is pure gold!

    Thanks mate.

Myles Bolger went to my school last year, hope he makes it.

He looked reasonably good for a junior ruckman. I put him in mainly because of his confidence playing, as well as his 25-odd hitouts.

are you going to be updating these handy(worth as much as gold) papers, cause if you do honestly, these papers are going to really good help, not just for me but everyone

Don’t know about the rest but coniglio is going to be number 1 if he doesn’t chose cricket was second best on ground in last years wafl grand final kicking 4 and having 20 touches as a 16 year old.. and omera will be top 5 too..

    • tigerland

      June 6, 2011 at 6:22 pm

it will be between coniglio and jonathan patton

      • Swannies

        June 6, 2011 at 8:16 pm

Patton didn’t do much though. He only had 9 kicks, a tackle and 1.3 for 64 points. A bit disappointing given the high expectations placed on him.

          June 6, 2011 at 8:17 pm

          And 9 marks. Bit still…

Pretty sure he was double and triple teamed most of the game.

I’m a bit of a noob (or knob) when it comes to this type of file.
    How do I view them.
I’m running Linux and have libre-office, the open-source replacement for MS Office.
Which file in the zip archive do I open.

    • Mumbles

      June 6, 2011 at 6:59 pm

Fixed, I had to change the file from .zip to .xlsx

That Jesse Lonergan is Sam Lonergan’s brother, apparently supposed to be heaps better than Sam according to a couple of guys I know who’ve played with/against him.

    • Warnie

      June 6, 2011 at 6:31 pm

Jesse is actually Sam’s nephew. We all used to play footy with Sam’s older brother (Jesse’s Dad). The kid is a jet… and a nice kid to go with it too! He is two years away from the draft though. Has been playing state league seniors here for the last two seasons.

        June 6, 2011 at 6:35 pm

Shit really? I’m mates with a couple of the Launie blokes and I swear they said brother, must have heard wrong. Thanks for that Warnie

        June 6, 2011 at 6:40 pm

He is a jet eh Warnie! I have seen him play down in Glenorchy, he will have to get drafted.

Rory Atkins, Joe Daniher will be good players from the EDFL not dt wise though, also a few others will make it hopefully, the current players who came from the edfl are Prestia and Watson who plays for Carlton.

Warnie, do you mind resaving the document to the page as a Microsoft Excel 2003 document? I think it’d help a lot of people out.

    June 6, 2011 at 6:47 pm

Warnie, what do you think about Julian Dobosz from North Hobart?

He kicked 16 in 2 colts games and has 7 from 4 in the seniors including a bag or 6 and kicked 7 for Tassie on weekend

    • Swannies

      June 6, 2011 at 6:53 pm

He looks very good and is well built for his age, with all of his goals from the weekend set shots (7.0), I think. This is great news for any rookie as it means that, although they may not score as well at the start of the AFL season, they will get early games due to having a mature, AFL-ready body, and will also start scoring a lot better as the season progresses as they ease into the pace of the game.

At this early stage, but in the end depending on where he goes, he looks good as an early, consistent cash cow.

How do I open this document???

    • Swannies

      June 6, 2011 at 8:49 pm

      1. Click on the link.
      2. Choose to “SAVE AS”
      3. Save it as an “.xlsx” file extension.
      4. OR, if you don’t have Microsoft Excel 2007, download the Excel 2003 compatibility pack at

Once you have downloaded this, reopen the document, save as an “.xls” file extension, and it should work.

      Hope this helped.

Umm warnie and swannies what do u lads think of lachie neale? he’s looks like a decent midfielder from SA. apprently he has been carving up in the u18 SANFL competition and he picked up 25 disposals on the weekend. just wanna know ur thoughts?

    • radman

      June 7, 2011 at 10:02 pm

swannie would love to know what you think of him?

      • Swannies

        June 9, 2011 at 11:20 pm

His skills are really good and he gets heaps of the ball. The only thing I’m concerned about is that he seems a bit on the small side (i.e like Brandon Matera) so, even if he goes early, I’m not sure how much game time he may get in his first season, let alone Round 1.

You have Sam Mayes in there. Hes my mate from school and he is only U/17s, an absolute freak. is the dept vice of SA and still is U/18s next year. Will be a certain top 5 pick in the 2012 draft

  23. finalsfooty

    June 7, 2011 at 2:21 pm

Watch out for Ben Kennedy from SA, he plays with my brother.. Didn’t play round 1 because of SANFL commitments, is a gun. Too young for next years draft, but can be pre-listed…

Watched Seb Gotch very closely as he was the year under me at my school. Very good player. He won an almost legends section for a hanger he took last year.
