Ricky Petterd: Deck of Dream Team 2011

Is Ricky Petterd ready to become a consistent performer in 2011? He showed signs this year that he is capable of scoring well in Dream Team, but a shoulder injury put an early end to his season… and will also give him a little bit of a discount!

Name: Ricky Petterd
Club: Melbourne
Position: Forward/Midfielder
Bye Rounds: 5 & 16
2010 Average: 76.7
2010 Games Played: 6
Predicted Average: 82

Why should I pick him? Ricky Petterd should continue to improve in 2011. He will turn 23 during the season and has been in the system for 4 years now. In 2010, he demonstrated some Dream Team scoring ability with a 110 against Collingwood in Round 2, along with an 80, 83 and 81 in other games last year. Petterd will be a handy forward/midfielder dual position pick because the Demons have both byes in multi-bye rounds meaning if you’re going for a league win, he’ll play every game – barring injury. Like I said, he should continue to increase his previous averages and with an improving Demons line up, should rise up in value.

Why shouldn’t I pick him? Petterd is one injury prone bugger. Since he has started playing AFL, his games record looks like this: 9, 2, 18 and 6. Possibly not the most durable bloke going around, but he is up and about this pre-season and recovering well from the shoulder reco. If you’re going for the car, you might want to stay away as he’ll need coverage… and with his body not being the best thing ever, there might be other times that he needs a bench player in his place.

Deck of DT Rating. QUEEN – The thing is, there is plenty of upside in Ricky Petterd… but plenty of risks with him as well. I am very confident of him averaging over 80 and possibly being your 7th forward for round 24, or he could be a good link to a premium. With extra trades this year, the risks are limited and Petterd will be an improver – are you ballsy enough to get on him?
